Our History & Heritage

We have immense pleasure to introduce our association to you.

A group of enthusiastic youngsters with the blessings and support of Elders and Konkani clergy started this association with around 100 Konkani Christians based in Mysuru. It came into existence on July 26, 1981 with J. I. D’Mello being its first president and Valerian D’Souza (Vally Vagga) as secretary.

It was a humble beginning with its activities restricted only to the annual celebration of the nativity feast of Mother Mary, our patron, and occasional cultural programmes.

The prime objective of the association was to protect, preserve, promote and develop the Konkani language, its literature, culture and anything relevant to Konkani. They also took up social causes by reaching out to the needs of poor and unprivileged people across all religions.

Over the years, apart from fostering our culture, traditions, heritage, and language we started actively involving in social service, extending a helping hand to the needy and poor. We established a Poor Fund to cater to the needs of poor students' education and poor families for medical, housing, and funeral expenses. Our association created history by organizing a Dasara Sports Meet for the first time in Mysore for slum and street children. We were motivated by the public response to it.

KCA has its own Community Hall, named “KONKAN BHAVAN”, constructed with generous help from members, well-wishers, and sanctioned funds from the Govt. of Karnataka. Inaugurated and functioning since 2016, Konkan Bhavan provides training programmes for self-employment for men and women, child development, and a Konkani Library, apart from being let out for marriages and cultural programmes.

KCA Mysuru has been certified as the ‘Best Konkani Association’ by Mandd Sobhann and was felicitated by the President of India on December 9, 2010.
